The War Continues

Monday did not bring any relief from the stress my wife and I have been having ever since Hamas attacked Israel. The number of dead keeps climbing. According to at least one estimate there were over 1000 Jews killed at the hands of Palestinian terrorist - and counting.

My granddaughter, her husband, and 2 children have been sleeping on mattresses in their bomb shelter.

My niece and her family that live in Beitar experienced a rocket attack on a street nearby the school where her young children attend. Fortunately schools were closed so no one was injured.

A Rocket was reported hitting the main highway (1) between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. No one was injured.

The 2 of my grandsons spending the year learning in Jerusalem were ‘treated’ to air raid sirens as Rockets flew over the city yesterday.

It has been quite an anxiety ridden past few days for us so far. Adding to our frustration- Our original direct flight scheduled for Thursday morning has been canceled. As of now we are re-booked on a 7:10 AM flight next Monday. With a 2 1/2 hour stopover in Munich. Not the best option for my wife who is still recovering from a freak accident that broke her ankle.

As I indicated yesterday, the Biden administration is continuing its full support for Israel with more than words and symbolism. With respect to symbolism though it was nice to read that the White House was lit up last night with the Blue and White colors of Israeli Flag to show its solidarity with the Jewish state.

The mainstream media coverage has for the most part been very sympathetic and positive - with some very troubling exceptions. While I haven’t seen all the coverage I did watch Monday night’s PBS Newshout broadcast. And I was appalled at what I saw.

Leila Milan’s-Allen (the PBS correspondent covering the war) began with the plight of Gaza residents suffering from the IDF bombing of a building in ‘retribution’ for the attack by ‘militants’. (Yes, that’s what PBS called them - Militants!)  after covering the plight of the Gaza Palestinians did she talk about what happened in Israelas though the massacre that generated that IDF response was secondary.

For the first time ever, I was sickened by the PBS Newshour. Which I used to respect as a fair minded albeit liberal news medium. But no more. It makes the New York Times anti Israel coverage look  tame by comparison! Truly sickening!

Unfortunately, the PBS Newshour gets a lot of respect as an unbiased news source because it is publicly funded and not subjected to advertiser bias. Although media coverage has in general been very positive, the opposite is true about PBS. They have an unfettered license to be as biased as they wish. Which they relish and dive into with complete abandon. Immune from any consequences. Ignoring ‘little’ details like context.

The suffering of Palestinians will always be given priority over the suffering of Israelis because Israel is the ‘evil’ Goliath’ oppressing the poor Palestinian ‘David’

PBS will surely have a negative impact as the war continues and they continue to highlight the toll taken on innocent Gazans at the hands of the ‘baby killing’ IDF. Giving short shrift to Jewish suffering  That will eventually turn the mainstream media back into its Israel bashing ways.

The new found support of most of the nations of the civilized world will surely not last. I therefore hope Netanyahu is able to keep his pledge to crush Hamas and Jihad. Grinding them into the fine dust of the earth. Never to return. But he better do it fast.
