Unfit for the Presidency

Attorney General William Barr (AP)
I cannot tell you how much it pains me that it is a man like President Trump who has done so much for the economy, Orthodox Jewry, and Israel. (And there is not the slightest doubt in my mind about that despite arguments made by some to the contrary.)

In fact it more than pains me. It angers me. If not for that, I would have been leading the charge of animus against him. And for someone like me that respects the office and generally gives its occupant a lot of leeway, it says a lot that I would be so against him.

After watching the daily  news reports about the President’s pathetic, never ending denial about who won the election and his  quest to overturn the results, I just can’t take it anymore. The President seems to be everything his worst enemies say about him. He cares only about himself. Everything else is a façade.

His current behavior should convince any doubter about that. It shows no bounds. He is so focused on himself that he is ignoring everything else. Including a pandemic that will have killed more people than all the Americans killed in all the wars since the beginning of the last century. The record number of COVID deaths that occurred yesterday… the record number of hospitalizations? Not a word! It’s all about him crying about losing with the ridiculous claim that any votes counted after November 3rd were illegitimate. And that the election was massive fraud.

How ridiculous is it? There was no fraud. Every challenge brought to court has thus far been dismissed for lack of any evidence. In some cases by conservative judges appointed by Trump himself. It isn’t just conservative Republicans that might be ‘Never Trumpers’ saying he is wrong. It is Republican officials that have always supported him and voted for him that are saying it. In fact Attorney General William Barr who has been Trump’s strongest ally to date has said it, too.

Another sad thing about this is the sight of a man like Rudy Giuliani who was considered America’s mayor for his heroic efforts during 9/11 now debasing himself - looking like a clown in just about every public appearance in support of the President's claims. Giuliani’s legacy is ruined!

I realize that there is bias in the media coverage of the President. I have called them out for that many times. But there is a limit to distrusting them on this. The facts are so loud and so strong that they speak for themselves. No amount of negative spin about media bias can change the obvious.

Those who still support him and actually believe the election was a fraud have been hypnotized by a man they still see as the unconventional outsider sticking it to the establishment and its media sycophants. They ae true believers. They are in denial about reality. To such an extent that they actually do not see the cold hard facts. They are living in a fantasy world. It is shocking to me how many normally very smart people feel that way. How can they be so blinded by their devotion to the man... so blind to the obvious?! And what would they say about the following?

Perhaps the most telling thing about how little the President cares for the country is telling Georgia voters  not to vote in the runoff senate election because of the fraud he keeps claiming happened there. It does not take rocket science to figure out what will happen if his supporters listen to him and stay away from the polls. He is handing over control of the government to the very Democrats he claims will destroy the country. Has he no shame?

I think we all know the answer to that.

I am beyond disgusted. I can’t wait to see him go. Much as I loved the above-mentioned policies and dislike his successor, I can’t wait until he takes over. So we can once and for all end this national nightmare. I just hope Biden doesn’t do the kind of damage his liberal colleagues want him to do, both domestically and in foreign policy. Especially if they take back the senate.

But whatever that damage might be, the need to get rid of Trump and all of his influence surpasses all that. And in 2024 we might get a better election result that will reverse any damage that might be caused during a Biden Presidency. Hopefully.

After January 20th I hope to never hear the name Trump again. I hope the media feels that way too and ignores him. That will cause his base to dissipate to a degree that a comeback will be highly unlikely. If they don’t ignore him, the publicity he will get out of that (even if it is negative) will keep his base exercised and  keep him alive for the next election. And if he returns to the Oval Office, it will have tragic consequences for the country.

Off my soapbox
